Hollywood Professionals Rally for Better Working Conditions and Job Security: SAG-AFTRA’s Fight for Change

2023-08-24 14:59:33

Professionals from the film and television industry in the United States demonstrated in New York on Tuesday to demand better working conditions and job security.

This demonstration, led by the union of actors and actresses SAG-AFTRA, was organized near the headquarters of Amazon and HBO in the American metropolis.

A double strike movement has paralyzed Hollywood since May for screenwriters joined in July by actresses and actors. The two strikes halted all US film and television production except reality television and games.

Due to this movement, the Emmy Awards ceremony, the “Oscars” of television, has been postponed from September 18 to January 15, 2024.

SAG-AFTRA, which represents 160,000 actors, stuntmen, dancers and other television and film professionals, prohibits all of its members from filming, but also from promoting their productions, in person or on social networks.

The union is calling for better pay, job protection and a framework for the use of artificial intelligence.
