Holiday opening hours: How the shops will work

Time is counting down for Christmas shopping, as the Athens Chamber of Commerce’s proposed holiday opening hours for commercial stores for the Christmas holiday season begins on Tuesday, December 12.

Shops will be open daily from 9am to 9pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 6pm.

On Sundays 17, 24 and 31 December, they can optionally be open from 11 am to 6 pm. On Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 December, as well as on Monday 1 January and Tuesday 2 January, the shops will be closed.

The opening hours of commercial stores proposed by the Athens Chamber of Commerce for the Christmas festive period are as follows:

Which Sundays will the shops be open?

The stores will be open for shopping on Sunday, December 17. On the two eves (Christmas and New Year’s Eve), which this year fall on a Sunday, the shops will also be open for last minute shopping.

Optional store opening hours for Sundays are from 11:00am to 8:00pm, however, on New Year’s Eve, December 31, they are from 9:00am to 6:00pm .

When do the winter sales start?

Winter sales will run from Monday, January 8 through Thursday, February 29, 2024. Stores are expected to open on the first Sunday of winter sales, January 14, with suggested opening hours from 11am. until 18:00 pm.

It is recalled that based on the bill of the Ministry of Development, the winter sales start on the second Monday of every January and end at the end of every February.

What about supermarkets?

According to newsbeast, supermarkets don’t follow retail especially in the off-season when it comes to opening their stores. During the festive periods of Easter, Christmas and New Year, they open normally.
