~Many sweats and pains Vissarians, Many deaths in honor.~
Saint Vissarion was born in Egypt, in the city of Misiri and lived around the end of the 4th and beginning of the 5th century AD. He passed his life in the desert of Egypt as an ascetic. He never acquired a garment.
For forty days and nights he stood immovably in a thorn bush, like a pillar, to overcome sleep, with his hands and gaze directed towards heaven, and his soul united to God. God honored him with his grace and blessing, following he performed great miracles.
The Synaxarias contain many miracles of the Saint. Thus it is stated that he set the sun and that he crossed the rivers without getting wet, as Elisha crossed the Jordan and as the Prophet Elijah sent down rain and watered the thirsty and arid land.
Saint Bessarion, having reached a deep old age, slept in peace.
February 20, our Church honors the memory of Saint Miraculous Leo, Bishop of Katani and Saint Cornelius Hieromartyr.
