A weather pattern, described by Race Director Iain Murray, as ‘ordinary’ has set across Barcelona with early morning rain showers delivered by low, heavy cloud cover and, with little movement, is leaving some windless conditions across the planned racecourse for the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup.

After yesterday’s sensational, brilliant, quick-fire, all-action racing, today was planned to see two Group B (Invited Teams) races and up to four Group A (America’s Cup Teams) races. That programme looks ambitious but in Barcelona, conditions can change quickly. The AC40’s, moored up at the outstanding ‘nou’ Port Olímpic which has undergone a dramatic transformation into a world-class yachting facility, have been instructed to stay ashore but ready to go at a moment’s notice.
The Race Committee are heading out to set up a course and will be monitoring the wind strength intently. The current True Wind Direction is in a range of 54° to 81° and a mean of just 5 knots. Several team meteorologist forecasts suggest the wind may build later in the afternoon so we may see some late afternoon/early evening racing. For sure, as soon as racing is possible, the Race Committee will do everything to get the UniCredit Youth America’s Cup underway.
