The constant race to the nearest merchant, just to sell old objects, however, becomes annoying in the long run. This is where the Trials of Merlin come in. These little puzzles and challenges are scattered around the world and are arguably the most important activity in Hogwarts Legacy. You can find hundreds of Trials of Merlin in the game, and especially in the beginning, you should do all the ones you can find. Trials don’t just give you experience. If you successfully complete a certain number of them, you will receive an expansion for your inventory. You will be able to carry 28 or 32 objects, once you have improved your inventory accordingly. You can obtain five of these upgrades, each of which grants you four additional slots in your inventory:
- Solve 2 Trials of Merlin – 4 additional inventory slots
- Solve 6 Trials of Merlin – 4 additional inventory slots
- Solve 10 Trials of Merlin – 4 additional inventory slots
- Requirement not yet known – 4 additional inventory slots
- Requirement not yet known – 4 additional inventory slots
Hogwarts Legacy: Solving Merlin’s Trials – How to find and solve each puzzle
These tests are to be solved: Merlin’s trials in Hogwarts Legacy are not all unique. In fact, each of the little puzzles falls into one of eight categories. Here we give you the list of each of the categories and how to solve them:
- Lighting torches: Use Incendio or Confrigo to light torches in close range. The torches sink into the ground following being lit, you must light them all before they are fully sunk.
- Crush the balls: You will see several spheres on columns. Destroy all spheres with your standard or Accio spell.
- Stone course: A course of standing stones – climbs on the first stone and jumps to the last, without touching the ground.
- Cube of symbols: Use Flipendo to rotate the cubes on the columns so that the arrangement of their symbols matches that of the column.
- Collecting moths: Moths like to come into the light. If you see a swarm of moths during one of Merlin’s trials, use Lumos to attract them. Then escort them to a column with diamond-shaped holes.
- Blasting stones: You will sometimes see stones with green reflections near the place of the test. Use Confrigo on these stones to destroy them all.
- Repair statues: During these events, several statues crumble nearby at the start. Find them and repair them with Reparo to pass the test.
- Magic Balls: Here you must maneuver a large or several small balls into small cavities in the ground using your spells. You can use yellow and purple spells like Flipendo, Depulso, Accio or Wingardium Leviosa.
How to find and activate Trials Finding Merlin’s Trials shouldn’t be a problem for you. As soon as you unlock the side activity, each location of Merlin’s Trials will be automatically marked on your map. Just look for the leaf symbol. To activate it, all you have to do is go there and plant some mallow.
If you get stuck in one of Merlin’s Trials in Hogwarts Legacy, you can always use Revelio for clues. Use this spell repeatedly within the Trials perimeter to gain information regarding nearby important objects. It will also allow you to quickly know what type of puzzle you are facing.
