SINSHEIM, Germany (AP) — Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann saved a penalty to help his team preserve a 1-1 draw once morest Mainz on Sunday in the Bundesliga.
The visitors were left to rue their misfortune when Baumann saved Aymen Barkok’s penalty in the 68th minute, then Marco Richter rattled the crossbar twice in pursuit of the winner.
Richter opened the scoring in the 39th for Mainz before Robert Skov equalized shortly following the restart.
The tie keeps Mainz at the bottom of the table following 12 games, while Hoffenheim is sixth.
Earlier, newly promoted Heidenheim drew goalless with Bochum.
Bayer Leverkusen leads by two points over Bayern Munich —- both teams are undefeated on the season. Leverkusen beat Werder Bremen 3-0 on Saturday, and Bayern beat Cologne 1-0 on Friday.
