The Swiss national team has to cope with a serious failure. Tristan Scherwey injured his right foot early in the first period once morest France following checking Crinon into the cushion. The striker had to be brought into the cabin with support. It quickly transpired from those close to the team that the player from Bern had to be taken to the hospital for further investigations.
The examinations revealed a bitter diagnosis. Coach Patrick Fischer dejected: «The news is not good. He suffered a broken foot and will no longer be able to play.” With Freiburg, one of the leaders of this team has to throw in the towel. Fischer adds: “He is an extremely important player for us. He’s one of our leaders and it hurts me so much for him.” After the 2-0 deficit, he told the team that they should get this game for Scherwey as well.
The accident is all the more annoying because 31-year-old Scherwey had already missed the Olympic Games in Beijing due to a foot injury.
Coach Fischer will now substitute Calvin Thürkauf, who was rested once morest France, for Scherwey once morest Germany on Tuesday.
