A well-known hockey player has already interceded for the victim.
NHL playoff matches attract not only ice battles, but also a special atmosphere created by fans in the stands. However, love for the club is not always adequate.
A completely wild story happened during the third match of the series between Edmonton and Los Angeles. Crazy fans of the Californian team gave a nightmare to a little girl battling cancer, just because she put on the form of an opponent. And one even spat at a 10-year-old cheerleader.
The leader of Edmonton immediately stood up for the girl.
“I’m disgusted”
Ten-year-old Cecily Eklund was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2019. She and her sister got to the away match in Los Angeles thanks to the Ben Stelter Foundation, created to help children suffering from cancer. However, the girl did not manage to enjoy a trip to another country and calmly watch hockey.
According to Cecily’s mother, inadequate Kings fans pestered her daughter because she was in an opponent’s jersey. And one of them even spat at the child.
Cecily herself also hinted that the trip was unsuccessful. After the game, she posted a short post on the social network.
“Watching hockey in Los Angeles is not like watching hockey in Canada,” the girl wrote.
Edmonton player Evander Kane, who knew Cecily personally before the incident, heard regarding the egregious story. The hockey player met the girl last year as part of a charity event. Kane might not help but stand up for the young Oilers fan and made the incident public by writing regarding it on his page.
“I am disgusted and horrified by what happened to this amazing little girl in the stands and in the women’s room. She was harassed for wearing another team’s jersey and was spat at by Los Angeles fans. This behavior is rude and completely unacceptable. For any little girl, especially one battling cancer, this treatment is shameful. And as this smart lady always says, BE KIND! Kane wrote.
More good people
Los Angeles reacted to the terrible incident as well. The club promised to conduct an internal investigation and find those responsible. Also, the Kings were asked not to judge all the team’s fans badly because of one story. Adequate California fans donated seven thousand dollars for the girl’s treatment.
Cecily’s mother told reporters that now her daughter is in a good mood, as she felt that there are much more kind people. And the girl herself intends to attend all the Edmonton games in the playoffs.
