Goran Bezina has decided to retire at 42. The Valaisan, who has been playing in Sierre since 2019, will be involved as a consultant in the construction of the new ice rink.
Spotted in Fribourg, the Montheysan with Croatian origins had made 3 seasons in AHL with the Springfield Falcons between 2001 and 2004. He had also been entitled to 3 NHL matches. Back in Switzerland, he had signed with the Eagles where he remained until 2019 with a small mishap in Zagreb during the 2016/17 season.
A defender capable of swallowing long minutes of ice, Bezina played in eleven world championships and the Turin Olympics in 2006. Since leaving Geneva, he had joined Sierre in the 2nd division to surround young players.
With 877 National League matches on the clock and more than 1,000 if we add the Swiss League matches, Bezina has had a busy career. He will also have played two finals with the GSHC in 2008 and 2010 under the leadership of Chris McSorley whom he will find in Sierre for the skating rink project. The Valaisan will also take care of the Sierre defenders.
