Höchst: Runoff between Schuster-Burda and Böselhör

Politics

No absolute majority might be achieved in the mayoral election in Höchst. On November 27, there will therefore be a runoff between the ÖVP candidate Heidi Schuster-Burda (36.75 percent) and Stefan Ubelhör (list “High Time and the Greens”, 34.75 percent). Voter turnout was 53.42 percent.

Four candidates from four different factions stood up for the mayoral election in Höchst. Now, on November 27th, a runoff between Schuster-Burda (ÖVP) and Übelhör (“High Time and the Greens” list) will decide who will take over the office of mayor in the future.

In addition to Schuster-Burda and Übehlör, Jan Fausek (NEOS), who scored 3.68 percent, and Robert Blum (FPÖ), who scored 25.01 percent, were up for election. The declared goal of the opposition candidates was that there should be a runoff election. They were able to achieve this goal.

Schuster-Burda was the favorite

Schuster-Burda (ÖVP), interim mayor and member of the state parliament, went into the election as the favorite. This is because the ÖVP in Höchst got the absolute majority in the last mayoral election – both in terms of the local council and the mayoral election.

In addition, as a former deputy mayor, she has been in charge of the fortunes of the Lake Constance community for a few weeks now. However, she is not without controversy: her handling of childcare brought her criticism from the opposition.

The population expects a solution for traffic

Parts of the Höchst population expect the new mayor to come up with a solution for traffic in the community. A lot of through-traffic flows through the town, especially at the Brugger Loch in the direction of Lustenau.

Other citizens emphasize that many things are going well in the municipality and that things should continue as before. One hopes, however, that a little more calm will return and that there will no longer be so much argument in politics.
