State of emergency in Hochgallmigg in the Tyrolean district of Landeck: After the night of Christmas Eve a huge rock had slipped onto the only connecting road, the town of 250 inhabitants is still inaccessible by car. Because there is still an acute risk of falling rocks on the so-called Hochgallmiggstrasse.
Airlift for Hochgallmigg
As the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) reports, The army supplies the approximately 250 residents from the air with food and medicine. There have already been three helicopter flights today and 15 more are planned for tomorrow, Wednesday.
The fire department in Hochgallmigg is also receiving additional equipment via airlift. Because she is currently on her own in an emergency, said Major Christoph Seidner from the Tyrol Military Command to ORF.
More slope in motion
Constant rain and thaw had apparently loosened the rock. The emergency services are also watching with concern a mountain slope that began to move over a length of around 25 meters over the weekend.
The material is currently being removed and the slope is then secured, reports ORF, citing the authorities. The situation will then be reassessed.
