HNRK: A Trailblazer Among the Quintet of Excellence Centers

The Haapsalu Neurological Rehabilitation Center (HNRK) was approved on the penultimate day of August at the DIH for the Development of Rehabilitation Technology (Deliver Inspiration & Health) as a center of excellence.
“DIH is a corporation that unites companies that contribute to the development of rehabilitation technology,” explained HNRK head Kadri Englas. According to him, the network includes companies that develop and produce robotic devices used in rehabilitation and develop the necessary technologies. Equipment from several of these companies – walking robots, standing desks and hand robots – is also used by HNRK.

“Currently, these companies have merged into an organization whose share is the largest among creators, producers and users of smart rehabilitation technologies in the world,” said the head of HNRK. HNRK became the fifth in the world and the first in Northern Europe member of the competence center network of DIH Corporation.

“The title of the DIH center gives us the opportunity to have a say in the development of new technologies both in terms of clinical cases and work organization,” said Englas. “In turn, the corporation offers us opportunities for training and experiential meetings, be they in real life or online,” he added.

According to Englas, this is also a great recognition for the institution. “HNRK became the fifth member of the DIH Corporation. Until now, one American and three European rehabilitation competence centers in Belgium, Spain and Switzerland were represented in it.

“The program we were invited to was launched just a few years ago, and we can safely say that we are among the very first to join,” Englas said.

The work organization of HNRK will not be affected by joining the new organization. Englas says that guests from the same field will probably have to be hosted more often in the future, who come to see the work of HNRK. “When handing over the title, DIH representatives emphasized that it is impressive in the case of HNRK how the entire team of the center is involved in the use of high-tech equipment in one way or another. We hope that the good feeling that the news of recognition brought will motivate us in the future,” said Englas.
