Bregenz (VLK) – There has been an Army Competitive Sports Center (HLSZ) in Vorarlberg for 40 years now. State Governor Markus Wallner and State Councilor Christian Gantner described the facility as a “medal factory” and congratulated them on the anniversary at the ceremony in the Bilgeri Barracks today (November 16th): “Our local athletes have excellent conditions here for their sporting development.”

“It is impossible to imagine life without this support facility today,” emphasized Wallner: “Here it is possible to fully concentrate on sport.” The Army Competitive Sports Center is the competence center for physical performance in the Austrian Armed Forces. Olympic sports run by federal sports organizations and key military sports are supported. The HLSZ 09 Vorarlberg has existed since 1983, when the first 14 military athletes moved into the provisional performance center in the Kolpinghaus in Dornbirn. In 2007 the move to the Dornbirn State Sports Center took place. Governor Wallner: “Thanks to the shared location of the HLSZ and the Vorarlberg Olympic Center, many synergies can be used and optimal training conditions can be created. This is literally worth its weight in gold!” Currently, 34 athletes (9 women, 25 men) are being looked following there – including the Olympic winners Alessandro Hämmerle and Thomas Steu.

In keeping with the state government’s goal of making Vorarlberg the most promising living space, the HLSZ opens up the best sporting opportunities: “From Vorarlberg to the top international level. “That is possible and has a role model effect,” Gantner and Wallner agree.

Since 2000, Daniel Devigili (himself a former karate world champion) has been responsible for the Bundeswehr’s competitive athletes. State Governor Wallner and State Councilor Gantner thanked Devigili, the athletes, the entire Vorarlberg sports family and everyone who is committed to Vorarlberg’s sporting successes.
