hit by a police vehicle in Pontarlier, a driver

A motorist is between life and death this Saturday following being hit by a police car in Pontarlier on Friday evening. The police car requested to intervene “in an emergency” at the scene of a brawl, was crossing a crossroads, flashing lights on, burning a red light, when the accident occurred around 10 p.m.

Two witnesses explained that they saw the vehicle of the 50-year-old man turn orange, said Etienne Manteaux, the public prosecutor of Besançon, recalling that the vehicles should normally give priority to the police in intervention. The sound recordings of the intervention confirm this version, adds the prosecutor.

A policewoman, a front passenger, had her elbow broken in the accident. The police officers’ blood alcohol and drug tests were negative. The results of the toxicological analyzes carried out on the injured driver are not yet known, according to the prosecutor. The investigation was entrusted to the urban security of Besançon.
