Hit and run in Laval: the driver charged with manslaughter

The woman arrested Tuesday evening in connection with the fatal hit-and-run that occurred last week on the service road of Highway 15 in Laval was formally charged Wednesday followingnoon.

Alexandra Gagné-Faucher, 29, faces charges of manslaughter, dangerous driving causing death and fatal hit-and-run.

Looking emotional, she appeared via videoconference at the Laval courthouse and pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution opposed the release of the accused.

The woman was actively sought for 5 days before the authorities succeeded in handcuffing her.

She is well known to police services, both at the criminal level and for violations of the Highway Safety Code.

In the past, Gagné-Faucher has been convicted of possession of a weapon and drugs, as well as fabricating evidence.

Also, she has accumulated several speeding tickets in recent years. It has already been caught driving 84 km/h in a 50 zone, 49 in a 30 zone, 123 and 125 in a 90 zone.

In this case, the facts of which the woman is accused occurred on the morning of September 15, on the service road of Highway 15 North, in Laval.

The woman was allegedly involved in a slight collision with the vehicle of Stéphane Taillon, 53 years old.

After the impact, Mr. Taillon got out of his car and was fatally struck by the other vehicle in what looked like an extreme case of road rage.

Very seriously injured, Stéphane Taillon had been rushed to hospital, where he passed away 24 hours later.
