Hit-and-Run Accident in Hollogne-sur-Geer: Search for the Culprit

This Sunday morning, around 8 a.m., Marcel and Marie-Rose, residents of Hollogne-sur-Geer, were on their way to the motocross meeting organized in Septon by the Victory club when they were hit by a vehicle on Route de Marche (Nationale 63). “A driver hit us from behind and fled,” explains Marcel (75) who was driving the vehicle towing a trailer to which a cross bike was strapped. “We were driving in the direction of Marche. This happened just before the Bois-et-Borsu exit”, adds Marie-Rose who, as a passenger, saw the trailer take off while taking the motorcycle on its journey. “We heard a big boom. The time to understand what had just happened, I saw in the mirrors the trailer and the motorcycle flying away.”

The couple were stunned at what had just happened. At first, he didn’t understand.

A light gray station wagon with the front damaged

In shock, the trailer lifted and flipped over. “The motorcycle was strapped, but it has, in part, detached from the trailer.” The motorcycle ended its race on the shoulder of the road. Fortunately, no vehicle received debris that was thrown during the accident and no one was injured. The facts were quick. “It was when I saw a light gray station wagon type car with the whole front end damaged and parts hanging off that I understood.”

The vehicle overtook Marcel and Marie-Rose before hurriedly fleeing through the Bois-et-Borsu exit. “My husband wanted to chase him, but the trailer and the motorbike were going to stay there unattended.” The accident caused damage to the trailer, but also to the rear hatch of the car which is completely dented. It seems that the motorcycle is not too damaged. “My husband rode a motorcycle when he was young and then he stopped. He started once more recently. Meetings are rather rare. He would like to quickly get back on the handlebars.” The couple consider themselves very lucky not to have been injured in the collision. Indeed, the trailer might have dragged their vehicle into its mad dash. “We are alive, that’s already it. We have nothing, but the damage is significant and at our expense. An accident can happen to anyone, but leaving without worrying regarding our fate is unacceptable.”

Registration partly raised

Several other motorists stopped to help the couple. Fortunately, solidarity still exists. Marcel and Marie-Rose picked up part of the driver’s license plate. During a Facebook call, a lady explained that she had come across a damaged vehicle that might correspond.

The Condroz area police have been notified. An investigation will be carried out to try to find the author of the facts, in particular by analyzing the tapes of the surveillance cameras. Unless the latter decides to go to the police himself. Marcel hopes to be able to start riding once more soon. The vehicles were removed by the Condroz repair department.
