What is the dispute between Supreme League and Kashmir Sports Board?

Recently, the Kashmir Supreme League announced the start of trials across Pakistan-administered Kashmir, which were to be held in five districts of Kashmir: Mirpur, Kotli, Rawalkot, Bagh and Muzaffarabad.

After the dates of these trials are announced Pakistan Administered Kashmir A press release was issued by the Sports Board regarding the ‘Kashmir Supreme League’ in which the league was declared controversial and illegal.

In a press release from the Sports Board, it was said that ‘Neither permission was taken from the Government of Azad Kashmir nor the Department of Sports, Youth and Culture has issued its No Objection Certificate i.e. NOC for organizing the Kashmir Supreme League.

“The youth of Azad Kashmir should keep themselves away from this controversial and illegal league.”

After the press release, this statement on behalf of the board was also published in the form of a poster on the social media official page of the Kashmir Public Relations Department.

After the publication of this press release and the poster, the director of operations of this league, Moin Khan, issued a video message saying that ‘Kashmir Sports Board has made a mistake and this league is completely legal.’

Moin Khan explained in his video message that ‘I have received the news that the Kashmir Sports Board has called the Kashmir Supreme League illegal. This is a big mistake by them.

“This league has been approved by the Pakistan Cricket Board itself and its approval has been given by Interior Minister and Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi and they want this league to be held in Kashmir, but we all want this league to be held.”

According to him: ‘There are some elements who are against this league and my clear message to them is that the country and the sport are already in such a state that they are going backwards.

“All people are requested not to do this, this is a legal league. People are requested to support it so that the talent of Kashmir, the youth who want to play can come forward and make the country famous.”

After Moin Khan’s explanation, Kashmir Supreme League Chairman Masood Ahmad Khan also spoke to Independent Urdu and said that ‘Kashmir Supreme League is the future of the youth of Azad Kashmir.

“With this league being held in Kashmir, not only the talent here will emerge, but the tourism and culture of this region will also be exposed to the world.”

He said that a league whose NOC has been issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board on August 2, 2024 and former captain Shahid Afridi is the supreme ambassador and former captain Moin Khan is the director of operations.

‘How can it be called controversial and illegal? This is a serious mistake of the Kashmir Sports Board.

He further informed that ‘On August 5, 2024, a formal approach was made to the office of the Sports Board Azad Kashmir to obtain permission for the trials of the Kashmir Supreme League, but we have not received any response from the board so far.

DG Sports Board says that you have to take permission directly from the Prime Minister. This behavior of the board is highly irresponsible. My request will be to the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir to resolve this matter taking personal interest.’

“We are also not in a position to provide the ground because of the previous agreement with KPL.

However, a committee has been formed by the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir to resolve the issues of the previous league, which will soon give its report on the matter.

“The final decision on this matter will be taken by the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq.”

How can a league whose supreme ambassador is former captain Shahid Afridi and director of operations Moin Khan be called illegal after PCB’s NOC?

On this question of Independent Urdu, he said that ‘I did not do this, but since this statement was given by my department, I support it. The Kashmir Supreme League will be considered legal in Azad Kashmir only after taking NOC from Azad Kashmir Sports Board.
