Istat data indicate, in 2023, a clear improvement in the job market in Rome and its province, with a strong increase in employed people and the employment rate. The employed were 1 million 819 thousand: the figure highest ever, 50 thousand more than in 2022 and 95 thousand more than in 2021. The growth rate of employed people in 2023 was 2.9% (Italian average +2.1%). Employment indicators tell us that the pre-pandemic levels of 2019 have been fully recovered and exceeded. This was reported by the Rome Chamber of Commerce
Pre-Covid levels recovered
«Istat data on employment in Rome in 2023 – states the President of the Rome Chamber of Commerce, Lorenzo Tagliavanti – they confirm that the Roman economy is in good health and pre-pandemic levels have been largely recovered and exceeded. There will be 50,000 more people employed in 2023 and we have reached a historic record in both employment and the employment rate. A very important aspect, then, is the consolidation of the growth trend in female employment.”
Qualifications that cannot be found
«There remain some critical issues – specifies the president of the Rome Chamber of Commerce, Lorenzo Tagliavanti – on which we must work. The priority is to reduce the gap between job supply and demand, i.e. the mismatching between requests for qualified personnel from companies and the lack of availability of these figures on the market. A critical issue that is not just Roman. In 2023, Roman companies had considerable difficulty finding staff with the required qualifications in almost 4 out of ten cases (37%)”
The role of the PNRR and the Jubilee
«2024 – concludes Tagliavanti – will be a fundamental year for consolidating and making Rome’s economic and employment growth structural. The numerous investments linked to PNRR and the preparation of Jubilee 2025 are already having a positive impact in terms of employment and economic growth. Investments which, if we are able to make the most of them, will transform the capital into a more modern and efficient city, equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure.”
