Historic participation in swimming.. Saudi Arabia announces list of athletes for Paris Olympics

The Saudi mission recorded the first Saudi female presence in the Olympics through direct qualification, through the Saudi Taekwondo team player, Dunya Abu Talib, following qualifying from the Asian qualifiers that were held last March in the Chinese city of Tai’an.

The Kingdom will be represented in the Olympics by the show jumping team, consisting of riders Ramzi Al-Dahami, Abdullah Al-Sharbatli, Khaled Al-Mubti, and Abdulrahman Al-Rajhi, who snatched the qualification card for the Olympic Games following topping the Group 7 qualifiers in the Doha International Show Jumping Championship last year.

In athletics, 23-year-old shooter Mohammed Tolo is participating for the first time in his career in the shot put competition, following he secured the qualification card by setting an Asian record during the Madrid Athletics Meeting last June, in addition to his fellow jumper Hussein Al-Hizam, who is making his first appearance in the Olympics in the pole vault competition, having obtained 1252 points in the world rankings for the competition.

At the level of “invitation cards”, which are considered an opportunity granted by international federations to a number of national federations and players around the world for those who were not lucky enough to gain qualifying points or set records, specifically in swimming, Saudi national team player Mishaal Al-Ayed (17 years old) is present in the 200m freestyle race, thus registering her name as the first woman in the history of Saudi swimming to participate in the Olympic Games, in addition to her rising colleague and the youngest Saudi player to participate in the current edition, Zaid Al-Sarraj (16 years old), who will be present in the 100m freestyle race for the first time in his sports career.

The International Association of Athletics Federations also granted runner Heba Mohammed Malm a “wildcard” to participate in the Olympics in the women’s 100m race, for the first time in her history.
