Historic lightning visit: Zelensky landed in the USA

President Volodymyr Zelenskij made his first trip abroad since the beginning of the war to the USA. Neither destination nor time are a coincidence.

On day 300 of this war, Volodymyr Zelensky took another risk. For the first time since Russia’s invasion, the Ukrainian president left his war-torn homeland and embarked on a historic mission. Exactly 7,835 kilometers as the crow flies separate his first destination, the White House in Washington, D.C., from the Marienpalast in Kyiv, which Selensky did not want to leave at the beginning of the war, although allegedly Russian mercenaries were hunting him – and the Americans were offering him escape assistance. Instead, Zelensky holed up in Kyiv and swapped his suit for the olive-green T-shirt, earning him great respect in the United States as well.

The plans for Zelensky’s first trip abroad since the beginning of the war had long been kept top secret. They only became public on the evening before his visit. Even many politicians were surprised.
