Historic Church in Orlando’s Parramore Neighborhood Undergoing Restoration

ORLANDO, Fla. – A new roof is now going up at a historic church in Orlando’s Parramore neighborhood more than four years following the structure collapsed.

News 6 found crews working on the supports for the roof at Black Bottom House of Prayer, 921 Bentley St., on Thursday.

Restoration work on the church began in October 2022. The work was needed following the roof collapsed in December 2019 and the building was further damaged by Hurricane Ian, which forced the removal of the bell tower.

When the work began, Pastor Dana Jackson said she expected the restoration of the nearly century-old building to be complete within two years.

It does not appear as though the new roof will be the end of construction at the church, which was first built in 1925. Video from the church shows interior walls still buttressed by metal polls and the building appears to be missing many doors and windows.

News 6 will be reaching out to the pastor of the church for an update on the reconstruction process. This story will be updated if we receive a response.
