A report revealed the amount of profits made by the famous Blizzard video game company, behind the launch of Diablo Immortal for 2022, just one month following the launch of the new version.

Diablo Immortal is an online multiplayer role-playing game developed by Blizzard in collaboration with NetEase Studios for iOS and Android smartphones and was officially launched in the first week of last June.

According to a report from App Magic, Diablo Immortal succeeded in achieving the company’s goals following it attracted attention from the first hours of the official launch and managed to generate revenues of $ 50 million in the first month only, despite it being a free game.

The report indicated that the new game achieved unprecedented profits in average earnings per day since the launch of the first version of it, although it was a paid game at the time, as the company’s profits amounted to approximately $ 2.4 million every day in the first month, ending with a profit of $ 48.9 million.

According to data from App Magic’s market intelligence tool, Diablo Immortal has been downloaded more than 8.5 million times in the first two weeks since its launch and revenue exceeded $24 million, making it the most profitable game at the start of its launch from Blizzard.

The report also mentioned that Diablo Immortal has become one of the most popular games in the United States since the first hours of the launch of the latest version, which is behind approximately 43% of total revenue, while this game is also very popular in South Korea where the company collected 23% of its revenue, Next are Japan, Germany and Canada with 8%, 6% and 3%, respectively, with the remaining 17% of revenue coming from other countries around the world.

Historic change in video games

As for the sources of profits, the report confirmed that Diablo Immortal was also affected by the historical change in the concept of video games, which began to be noticed years ago by achieving greater profits from free games, as opposed to paid games in an era when games on smartphones represent the biggest attraction for fans.

Blizzard decided to launch the game completely for free and rely on the in-store to sell tools, progression equipment, weapon improvements, clothes and characters in order to earn profits, which achieved goals that exceeded expectations in the end.

It is reported that the vast majority of video game developers in recent years have launched completely free versions of their popular or new games, with an internal store that provides features for players, which have succeeded in generating revenue that often exceeds what the company collects from paid versions of games.
