The wife of the mayor of the municipality of Lauterbrunnen, in the Bernese Oberland, admitted to having killed her husband during an argument. Aged 69, the notable died of wounds inflicted by a knife. Aged 58, the wife of German nationality is in pre-trial detention.
Examinations carried out by the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University of Bern showed that the fatal wounds had been made by a knife. Investigations are ongoing regarding the murder weapon.
The wife of the president of the commune was arrested in the Lauterbrunnen region, the Bernese cantonal police and the Bernese Oberland public prosecutor communicated on Tuesday, without giving further details. The 69-year-old husband was stabbed last Wednesday.
Apprehended a few hours following the crime
The Bernese cantonal police were informed shortly before 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday that a woman had fatally injured a man in this Bernese Oberland tourist resort. She apprehended the alleged perpetrator, the victim’s wife, a few hours later.
A team of paramedics and several police officers had been dispatched to the scene, the Bernese Oberland regional public prosecutor’s office said on Thursday. They might only confirm the death of the man.
The deputy municipal secretary of Lauterbrunnen told Keystone-ATS that the victim was the president of the municipality.
