Retired but you still work after all?

“I keep a medical activity: three consultations, three half-days per week in Saint-Pierre. I treat my former HIV patients there (who are between 45 and 85 years old). It becomes a real general practitioner consultation with people I have known for 20 to 25 years. People who at the time with the disease thought that they would not see their child grow up… Some of them were almost dead people and then new treatments appeared… I am happy to see them still alive . This gives hope in medicine. »

Did this experience help you during the Covid?

“I have experienced two great pandemics which are mirrors of each other. I remember that in the 80s and 90s, we did what we could with HIV patients without a solution. In addition, the relationship was very different than for a Covid patient who arrives in an emergency with respiratory failure and with whom we no longer know how to dialogue as in March-April 2020. The HIV patient, we spoke with him and his situation deteriorated little by little. little. In addition, he was often stigmatized. We saw him for several years. »
