A Quebec father who has to take care of two children alone is distraught, while he is still waiting for a place in daycare for his baby, born at the beginning of the year.
Emmanuel Pouliot’s life changed dramatically last January when his wife suffered a stroke just a week following giving birth to their son, Eli.
“Of course I did not expect to live my first months of fatherhood like that,” says the 29-year-old father, who goes to his wife’s bedside every day.
Four months later, even though her condition is slowly improving, she is still in the intensive care department of the Enfant-Jésus hospital.
“She feels really helpless and then she often told me that she was afraid of not seeing her son grow up,” says Mr. Pouliot, very emotional.

The situation becomes more and more agonizing for the young man, while the benefits of the Quebec Parental Insurance Plan are coming to an end and he must return to work in September.
Even though he is aware that he is not the only one in this situation, he cries out from the heart to find a daycare place for little Eli.
“We still don’t have a place, like many parents in Quebec. It adds enormous stress, I won’t hide it from you. It doesn’t help me very well in this event, which is really difficult, ”he said.
He does not know for the moment when his wife will be able to return home, nor if she will retain the following-effects of her stroke.
A cousin of the family has also launched a fundraising campaign on the “GoFundMe” platform to support the family during this ordeal.
