THE RESIDENCE of Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu in the seaside city of Caesarea was attacked by a drone on Saturday (19/10) local time, causing minor damage and no casualties. Meanwhile, Israel’s war in Gaza and Lebanon continues to rage after the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
The Israeli government announced that one of Netanyahu’s three homes was targeted by three drones, two of which were intercepted. Neither Netanyahu nor his wife were home at the time.
Netanyahu promised Iran and its proxies would pay a heavy price for the attack. Netanyahu said Israel would retaliate.

Israeli media then published a video of the prime minister walking in a park to show that the prime minister was fine.
“The attempt by Iran’s proxy, Hezbollah, to kill me and my wife today was a big mistake,” Netanyahu was quoted as saying by the Guardian.
Israeli air systems have difficulty detecting light drones. This is suspected to be the reason they conceded.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah did not claim responsibility for the attack but said it fired several barrages of rockets into northern and central Israel. It killed a 50-year-old man in Akko City.
The rocket attacks came after Hezbollah announced it was entering a new phase of a full-scale war that began with Israel’s ground invasion of southern Lebanon earlier this month. Hezbollah plans to send more guided missiles and explosive drones to Israel.
On Saturday, an Israeli drone strike killed two people driving on a highway in Jounieh, a predominantly Christian city north of Beirut. It was the first time the city had come under attack from Israel. (Z-2)
