The stomach cancer often affects patients over the age of 50. It develops at the expense of parietal cells, which line the inner wall of the stomach. This is’adenocarcinomas in more than 90% of cases.
This tumor grows slowly and silentlybefore invading neighboring organs such as liver, spleen, colon or pancreas. A family man residing in Manchester (UK), diagnosed with stomach cancer, has just alerted the British press to the warning symptoms, in order to raise public awareness. Today, Pete Murphy is unfortunately sentenced.
“It got to the point that he mightn’t eat anything anymore”
Pete Murphy began to feel stomach pain and loss of appetite. “He started having very bad stomach pains and said that everything what he was trying to eat didn’t taste good, said her daughter Sarah at the Manchester Evening News. It got to the point that he mightn’t eat anything.”
Pete ended up going to his general practitioner and, following a series of tests, he learns that he has stomach cancer. The doctors discovered that his tumor had perforated. Pete was rushed to hospital for surgery.
“It was terrifying for us, said Sarah. He looked like he was regarding to die.”
His cancer has spread to the liver
Doctors are relatively pessimists as to Pete’s chances. If he survived the operation, the perforation caused an infection in her abdomen. Doctors have advised him to make the most of his remaining months. They said the cancer had set in spread to his liver and behind his stomach and that there was “nothing they can do“.
“It’s been the hardest week traumatic of all time, her daughter said. We are all in shock. We don’t really know how much time he has left. They said a maximum of a few months if he can get over the operation and the infection he got.”
Stomach cancer: what are the warning symptoms?
At the beginning of their development, gastric tumors do not present no symptoms, making early diagnosis difficult. When they start to be symptomatic, stomach tumors can lead to the following symptoms:
