A few days ago, Kostis Maraveyas was at the Thesprotia Fairytale Festival for a scheduled appearance and there he asked for some time from his audience to tell a story about his father, before he passed away.
“I will tell you about my father. My father is originally from Kefalonia and from here to Paramythia Thesprotia. My dad, he was, he is a man who gave himself to make our dreams come true and me and my brother” Kostis Maraveyas began to say and continued:
“In Agrinio, where I grew up, I went to the Conservatory and did music and at some point I couldn’t go there anymore, they were lower classes.
He took me every Friday to Patras in his old ’75 Mercedes, we are now talking about the late 80’s, early 90’s, without a bridge. And we used to go by ferry boat. He took me to the Hellenic Conservatory of Patras every Friday for four years without interruption.
Sometimes the ferry boat didn’t pass and we stayed in Rio across the street. Hard times, they weren’t easy. Also my father still has this mercedes. He has to drive and move her over four years, he couldn’t do it. Despite all that, he went down with my mother, they have been married for 55 years and love each other very much. Totally in love.
So he would go down with my mother, put the bike in front so that it wouldn’t run out of battery, even though he knew he couldn’t drive it, nor go anywhere, and they would play music. And they would listen to music for half an hour and then go home. The one in Zografou for the last 5-6 years. But one day, the radio was locked because some code had expired and it needed a pin and was begging me. He said to me, “Hey Kostis, I need the pin from the tape recorder, will you go to the dealership and ask for the pin?”
“Look, dad, where are you going, since you can’t go anywhere.” He was getting irritated, “How can I not go? I want to be able to leave at any time..”. I didn’t have time to go and I neglected it and one day in a panic, my mother took me and said: “Koste, I can’t find your father”.
How can you not find him? After he can barely walk to leave… He tells me: “You didn’t understand, the car is missing”.
He had taken the car himself and went to Liosia to the dealership to get the Pin and they gave it to him and he came back safe and sound luckily both he and the others and the radio was working again. Keep going down.
Then he couldn’t even get down and he could hear the house. So I want to tell you that today’s concert, since it was symbolic to be here today, the first time I come, is dedicated to him”,
