Sao Paulo (AFP) – Two daughters of football legend, Brazilian Pelé, hospitalized since Tuesday, said on Sunday that his state of health presented no “risk” and were optimistic regarding his return home.
Pelé “is sick, he is old, but at the moment he is hospitalized for a lung infection. And when he is better, he will go home,” said his daughter Kely Nascimento, in an interview with the Brazilian channel Globo.
This lung infection comes from a Covid-19 contamination contracted three weeks ago.
But “he is not in an intensive care unit, he is in a normal room. He is not at risk, he is in treatment”, added his sister Flavia Arantes.
Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pelé, was admitted to Albert-Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo on Tuesday for a reassessment of his treatment for colon cancer. His respiratory infection is “treated with antibiotics”, the doctors said at the time.
The hospital said on Saturday that his condition was “stable” and that he was responding well to the treatment given to him to combat his respiratory infection. The hospital’s communications department made the same observation to AFP on Sunday.
Pelé, 82, himself said on Saturday that he felt “strong and hopeful”.
His two daughters also denied rumors on Sunday that his health was deteriorating.
“We are tired of receiving condolences”, also described Flavia Arantes to the Globo channel.
