His Car Was Blocked, Minister of Youth and Sports Came Down to Meet Protesters and Police (Doc. Ist)

The car of the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Dito Ariotedjo, was blocked by the masses protesting against the Pilkada Bill when he left the Kemenpora office in the Senayan area, Jakarta, Thursday (22/8) evening, at around 19.40 WIB.

In the received video Indonesian Media, Dito’s car was knocked on to meet the crowd which was being dispersed by security forces on Jalan Gerbang Pemuda.

Dito then got out of the car and spoke to the crowd at the TVRI Building. The crowd asked Dito to persuade the police to stop the dispersal efforts by spraying water cannons.

Escorted by the protesters, Ditos had time to talk with the police who were on standby and at the same time mediated to calm the protesters. The police had stopped and the protesters also approached Dito. However, the police pushed back the crowd with water cannons.

Dito asked the police on duty without repressive action. After receiving that assurance, Dito left the location escorted by police officers and the masses chose to go home.

Meanwhile, the police said the situation in front of the DPR/MPR RI building, Central Jakarta, was under control after the demonstration on Thursday (22/8).

“Until now, the situation in the jurisdiction of Polda Metro Jaya is safe and under control,” said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Ade Ary Syam Indradi. (P-5)
