His car ransacked, the police refuse to take samples: “They told me that there should have been a murder for that”

Thierry (assumed first name) is not losing his temper. During the night of Wednesday to Thursday, individuals tried to steal his car parked near his home, in the town of Zellik (Asse) but without success. Frustrated by this failure, they then ransacked the vehicle, not without leaving traces of blood. Arrived on the spot, the police were however unable to take blood samples when this would have made it possible to quickly identify the vandals.

Jleft my home around 6 a.m. Thursday morning when I saw my car door open. I then noticed that people tried to steal it, without success”he recalls. “They did not succeed and then ransacked my car. I found the windows shattered, scratches all over the bodywork, traces of blood on the start and stop button, they dismantled the cabin, stole valuables, punctured tires.”

A police patrol came to the scene to inspect the damage and draw up a report. Thierry asked them if it was possible to take blood samples following the traces present in different places of the vehicle, but that was not possible. “They replied that this is not possible for vehicle damage and that there would have to have been a murder or an attempted murder for there to be samples and identify the suspects”he explains. I find this intolerable. It would have sufficed to take a sample, send it to the laboratory and I would have had the result within 24 hours so as not to complain in the air. So I filed a complaint once morest X, but it’s useless, especially since there’s no camera in the street and the neighborhood hasn’t seen or heard anything. The insurance will intervene but I regret the inaction of the police.”

We contacted the heads of the West police zone to understand what the legislation provides. It turns out that the police are authorized to take blood samples, but the financial means do not always allow it. DanIn such cases, the procedure provides that the lab must come and collect the traces, like what is done during a burglary. The vehicle must be considered as an object of the offense and it is obvious that the police should have carried out the analysis of the bloodstains, especially since the police are trained for this kind of mission. Now, it depends on the district and the means made available because the costs of labs and travel are important he concludes.

We contacted the Zellik police zone to get a reaction, to no avail.
