WTT Contender Muscat (October 8-14, 2023 / Oman) On October 14, in the women’s singles final, Hina Hayata (23 = Nippon Life Insurance / 8th in the world) was defeated by A. Diaz (22 = Puerto Rico / 12th in the world) 4-0, and won the championship.
Diaz came to the finals with the famous general Chiu Kenshin, who was the coach of Jun Mizutani and Kasumi Ishikawa. Two people born in 2000, from the golden generation with many active players around the world, collide.
At first, Diaz’s attack put him behind at 2-5, but Hayata’s drive with a strong rotation in the forehand and long serve to the back induced mistakes, and he took the lead at 11-7.

Hayata attacked both sides and the middle, and also canceled out Diaz’s strong strikes with up-down serves. They won the second game 11-5, and Hayata’s serve was effective in the third game as well, and Diaz managed to receive the ball back and score one following another on the third ball attack. I’ll take this one too with a score of 11-5.
Diaz occasionally lands creative moves, but it’s Hayata who takes control of the match. Even when it became a big rally, Hayata pressed on, winning the fourth game 11-6 and winning in straight sets.
Hayata won her second international singles championship this season, following WTT Contender Rio de Janeiro. She showed off the strength of Japan’s ace.
