The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahuwarned before the General Assembly of the HIM this Friday (09/22/2023) that Iran faces a credible danger as a consequence of its nuclear program. In his speech, the premier used the construction “credible nuclear threat,” but his communications services quickly corrected that Netanyahu was referring to a “credible military threat,” as written in his speech.

“Above all, Iran must confront a credible nuclear threat,” the prime minister said on the General Assembly rostrum, calling on the world to do whatever is necessary to prevent Tehran from advancing its nuclear program. “As long as I am prime minister of Israel I will do everything in my power to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons,” he added.

Iran, Israel’s archenemy for decades, is not only torpedoing its peace agreements with several Arab countries – Netanyahu argued – but has developed a nuclear program despite the scrutiny of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Israel, for its part, has a widely known but undeclared nuclear program.

In addition to the usual invectives against Iran as an alleged sponsor of international terrorism, which are a constant in Israel’s speeches at the UN, Netanyahu extended his hand to the Arab countries that have signed or want to sign peace agreements with Israel, and particularly to Saudi Arabia, with which an agreement is being negotiated with American mediation.

“By counting together on the impulse of the (Saudi) Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman, we can model a future of great lessons for our people,” he said, and then took the opportunity to show an “ideal map” of Israel surrounded by allied Arab countries, which would be link between Asia and Europe with a potential for prosperity for 2 billion people, he said.
