A hike in the Höllengebirge mountains ended in hospital for a 53-year-old British woman on Monday. The woman and her 60-year-old husband had climbed from Steinbach am Attersee to the Geißalm via the Stieg-Steig. On the way back down the same path, a serious accident occurred at an altitude of around 1300 meters: the woman sprained her ankle and fell several meters into the pines.
Saved by rope
She sustained such serious injuries that she could no longer walk on her own. Her husband alerted the emergency services. Mountain rescuers from the Steinbach/Weyregg station, the crew of the emergency medical helicopter “Martin 3” and an alpine police officer from Gmunden set off. The crew of the emergency medical helicopter rescued the injured woman with a 30-meter rope and took her to the Salzkammergut Clinic in Vöcklabruck.
Localization: The accident occurred during the descent over the Geißalm
