Bangalore: The state government has decided not to reopen 11th and 12th classes in colleges closed in Karnataka following clashes over the hijab controversy. But in classes up to 10, the study will resume.

Schools and colleges in Karnataka have been given a three – day holiday on the 8th of this month in view of the potential for conflict. The government has decided not to reopen colleges and 11th and 12th classes on Monday in view of the ongoing debate in the High Court on the hijab issue.

The Karnataka High Court had earlier ruled that students should not be allowed to dress religiously in schools, regardless of their faith, until the final verdict on the petitions challenging the hijab ban. This applies to schools where uniform is mandatory. The apex court said it would consider the hijab controversy in due course.
