Highway Patrol promotes road awareness campaign in Misiones

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Highway Patrol developed a series of road safety awareness workshops in the department of Misiones, focused on training students as future responsible drivers.

The sessions were organized by the Directorate of Road Safety Education, whose leaders shared an enjoyable educational session in the classrooms, seeking to sow a new road safety culture in the new generations.

The educational communities of Villa Florida, at the San Francisco de Asís School and the Florideño Technical College, were the main recipients of the advice given, in the search for a new awareness that promotes friendly driving and safe behavior, both as pedestrians and drivers on the country’s roads.

During the workshops, various aspects of road safety were developed through the projection of audiovisual materials, reported the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC).

The goal is for future drivers to replicate what they have learned at home, raising awareness among parents or guardians about the need to be careful when driving a vehicle.

Alarming data

In Paraguay, an average of 1,200 deaths are recorded per year as a result of traffic accidents, according to data from the National Agency for Traffic and Road Safety (ANTSV).

Likewise, 60,000 people are injured each year due to vehicle accidents, which means 3 deaths and 164 injuries per day, 1 death every 8 hours, as well as 7 injuries per hour.

In our country, road accidents are the leading cause of death among people aged between 15 and 29, and the sixth cause of death after deaths from cerebrovascular, respiratory and cancer diseases. The majority of the deceased continue to be motorcycle drivers.

To date, more than 30 talks have been held at various institutions across the country, including educational institutions, transportation companies and government institutions.

To request these talks, all that is needed is to submit a note addressed to the National Director of the Highway Patrol by the interested parties, to discuss issues related to the National Traffic Law, driving, documents and control devices, among others. The request must include the date, the proposed time and a contact number.
