Hessen really heats up at the weekend. According to the forecast by hr meteorologist Marcel Herber, Sunday will be the hottest day of the year so far with highs of 36 degrees. That means: Don’t skimp on the sunscreen and off to the outdoor pool or bathing lake before the sultry heat is likely to unleash itself in strong thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon.
But first it will be pleasantly cool again on Friday night. In northern Hesse it can even go down to single-digit lows. It is advisable to air the room properly before it becomes increasingly oppressive.
Humid air heralds thunderstorms
On Saturday the heat will be wetter and muggy. There may be occasional thunderstorms, which slowly spread across Hesse from the south-west.
In the night from Saturday to Sunday, temperatures in the cities are unlikely to drop below 20 degrees – a tropical night.
Local heavy rainfall possible
The likelihood of a crash increases, especially on Sunday afternoon. Where there has been a thunderstorm, there can also be heavy rainfall, says hr weather expert Herber: “I cannot rule out that there will be flooding again. But you have to expect that at the moment (on Thursday afternoon, editor’s note). not.”
At the beginning of the week the temperatures drop only a little. The thunderstorms should clear up over eastern Hesse over the course of Monday – and with them the humid air.
