Highly complex cardiac surgery conference with international support

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Public Health reported the successful completion of surgical procedures at the “Niños de Acosta Ñu” Pediatric General Hospital with the participation of doctors from the Austral University Hospital in Argentina and with the support of the Surgeons of Hope Foundation.

The cardiac surgical team plans to perform between six and eight highly complex surgeries during the week. Each procedure requires long hours in the operating room and postoperative care in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU).

In this context, the head of the Cardiology Department of the “Niños de Acosta Ñu” Hospital, Nancy Garay, mentioned that the learning that her colleagues from the neighboring country leave behind allows, especially the younger cardiac surgeons, to introduce and improve new highly complex surgical techniques, always in search of better results for their patients.

The cardiology team at the pediatric hospital is visited by Dr. Christian Kreutzer, head of the cardiovascular surgery service at the Austral University Hospital, his deputy, Dr. Benjamín Chiostri, and Dr. Rafael Fraire, intensivist and head of the ECMO program.

“We are sharing knowledge and teaching what we know. We see a lot of enthusiasm from our Paraguayan colleagues and a lot of wisdom,” said Dr. Kreutzer, during his stay at the Acosta Ñu.

The event is part of the strengthening of the comprehensive assistance program for children with congenital heart disease who come to the pediatric hospital. The Ministry of Health provides the supplies and drugs established in the list of essentials. The surgeries are free of charge for families.

In addition, the professionals took advantage of the opportunity to participate in theoretical and practical training, aimed at pediatric intensivists and cardiology staff, highlights the press release from the health portfolio.

The scheduling of the healthcare and teaching activities was carried out in collaboration with the Surgeons of Hope Foundation, who covered the costs of the doctors who came to the country, in addition to the coverage of the cardiac resonance and cardiovascular tomography course.
