The Cowboys held a new practice from their training camp in Oxnard on Thursday. This session, it is worth mentioning, was the last one before the preseason game once morest the Jaguars on Saturday. And although the general feelings of the team are positive, an injury occurred that complicates the plans in a key position.
Here’s a look back at the highlights of the Cowboys’ Day 10 camp.
Chuma Edoga leaves practice due to injury
The most outstanding news of the day is not exactly good. Offensive lineman Chuma Edoga left practice in the medical staff cart. During a team exercise, Edoga felt discomfort in his right knee. And although he tried to continue, he eventually had to leave the field of play.
According to the initial diagnosis, Edoga appeared to have hyperextended his right knee. For now, it remains to wait if in the next few hours there is an update on it. It is worth mentioning that Edoga was aiming to start on Saturday once morest the Jaguars, this as proof of his possible inclusion in the final roster of Dallas.

Mazi Smith and Tyler Biadasz return to training with the team
Now, we come with two good news. This Thursday, defensive tackle Mazi Smith and center Tyler Biadasz returned to training as normal. This, it is worth mentioning, following the scares that both gave on Tuesday.
That day, Mazi did not train due to possible tendonitis, which was ruled out following an MRI. Meanwhile, Biadasz left practice following presenting discomfort in an ankle. However, both participated without problems in orientation on Wednesday and in the practice session on Thursday.

Lamb, dominant as usual
Now let’s move on to the action of this Thursday’s practice. As usual, receiver CeeDee Lamb was one of the standouts. The #88 was very dominant both in the exercises of 7 once morest 7 and in plays in the red zone. In fact, cornerbacks DaRon Bland and Stephon Gilmore had quite the job once morest him.
On top of this, Lamb also pulled off one of the best plays of the day. In the end zone, the receiver performed a stunt to keep the ball despite Bland’s coverage. Without a doubt, Lamb confirms that he is at a high level for the upcoming season.

Simi Fehoko seeks to sum up merits to enter the final roster
On the other hand, the situation of Simi Fehoko is very different. The fifth round pick of 2021 has had a very irregular camp, and this does not favor him in his fight not to be left out of the team. However, the Stanford product was one of the highlights this Thursday, connecting with Dak Prescott on several plays. Among them, one where his footwork prevented the pass from ending incomplete.

Two undrafted rookies raise expectations ahead of Saturday
Saturday’s game once morest the Jaguars, as we know, will be key for many young players to prove themselves. Such is the case of fullback Hunter Luepke, who has had little to do with Oxnard. However, the North Dakota State product had his best camp practice so far on Thursday.
During the day’s session, Luepke excelled at evading tackles and finding gaps to escape. According to head coach Mike McCarthy, Dallas’ young running backs are expected to be tested once morest Jacksonville. And that group will include Luepke.

Likewise, another undrafted player that generates expectations is receiver John Stephens Jr. The Louisiana product stood out this Thursday, being effective in the red zone and even as a blocker. Stephens has made a name for himself in Oxnard this week. And because of that, he’ll be one of the names to watch Saturday once morest Jacksonville.

KaVontae Turpin, working as a broker?
This year, the Cowboys have done numerous experiments trying players in positions other than what they’re used to. This, in theory, to have versatile pieces on his roster. In fact, the coaching staff is running another experiment in Oxnard: testing receiver KaVontae Turpin as a running back.
This Thursday, Turpin had some repetitions making runs on offense, which is the second time that has happened in camp. It’s well known that the former USFL player is looking to get more involved in offense this year, aside from his role on special teams. This test of Turpin as a running back, it seems, is the idea of offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. It remains to be seen then if, in the preseason, Turpin sees action in that role as well.

Two young cornerbacks are ready to shine on Saturday
Among the young Dallas players looking to make a name for themselves in the preseason are cornerbacks Nahshon Wright and Eric Scott Jr. Both have had a good camp thus far. That trend continued this Thursday, with both alternating in the first team. Both are in contention for backup spots at their position, and the game once morest the Jaguars will be key to their aspirations.

Kicker Brandon Aubrey maintains a consistent performance
Finally, let’s review the situation in the kicker position. After his perfect performance on Tuesday, Brandon Aubrey had a positive performance on Thursday. The former USFL player made 6 of his seven attempts, missing a 43-yard attempt. Aubrey is expected to have field goal opportunities on Saturday once morest Jacksonville. And this will depend on whether or not the Cowboys will add another kicker to compete for the title.
In today’s kicking session to open practice, Brandon Aubrey went 6-for-7 with makes from 33, 33, 33, 36, 39 and 43 yards and his lone miss coming from 43 yards. #DallasCowboys
