Highlighting opportunities in the manufacturing sector

This second edition of Manufacturer’s Week is organized by Manufacturers and Exporters (MEQ) of Quebec and is being held from January 24 to 27, 2023 under the theme “Fabricate your future”. For the occasion, Manufacturer’s Week was passing through Essity’s facilities in Drummondville this Thursday, January 26th.

This Manufacturing Week, during which industrial tours with high school students and discussion tables between elected officials and manufacturers are organized, helps to highlight manufacturing companies that shine through their excellence and innovation.

“The objective of Manufacturing Week is to raise awareness of the manufacturing sector and introduce its many possibilities to both young people and elected officials in the region. During this week, more than 380 high school students will be able to visit manufacturing companies in their region and see that there are many stimulating jobs and very interesting career opportunities,” said Véronique Proulx, President and CEO of MEQ. .

“Nearly sixty students from Ste-Anne-de-Daveluyville and Jean-Raimbault secondary schools visited our facilities at Essity today to discover stimulating career opportunities and better understand what is being done at manufacturers in the region,” continues Claude Richard, director of human resources at Essity, partner of Manufacturer’s Week.

These students also received presentations from the Cégep de Drummondville regarding in-demand training programs.

In addition to visits by young people to companies, meetings were organized between manufacturers and elected officials to discuss solutions to the labor shortage in the manufacturing sector and the strategies to be put in place to promote attraction and retention of workers. “We are also organizing four discussion tables between elected officials and manufacturers to discuss labor challenges and propose solutions. The manufacturing sector is key to the economy of Quebec and its regions, there is no shortage of opportunities, so come and discover them! adds Ms. Proulx.
