High wages attract young people to the IT sector

Data from a survey released at the end of last year by Revelo, a platform specialized in the Artificial Intelligence segment, showed that 35% of the professionals on the platform belong to Generation Z, which includes people born between 1995 and 2010, the majority being among those who responded to the survey. More than 900 people were interviewed.

Also according to the study, 72.6% of professionals are already employed, the developer career is the most sought following (36%) and, compared to 2020 data, there was a 55.5% increase in the average salary of IT professionals . a jump from BRL 6,020.41 to BRL 9,364.41.

Numbers from other countries help to perceive the trend of highlight for the sector and the search for younger people. For example, information from the US National Association of Colleges and Employers indicates that the starting salary for an education science professional was around US$6,000.

The high demand for specialized professionals, which led to the search for newly graduated professionals or even in the final stages of training, is also highlighted in the USA. The CEO of recruitment platform Hired claims that the salary for the first year in technology exceeds $9,000.

Information from the Insights Report, published by Assespro-PR in August last year, shows that there are around 275,000 companies specializing in IT operating in Brazil, demonstrating the strength of the segment.

Specialist and CEO of Pasquali Solution, Leonardo Pasquali, says that although software programming is increasingly popular in the minds of young professionals and society as a whole, it remains complex and requires a lot of study to enter the area. .

For the professional, the basis of any type of programming, like basically any language, involves studying programming logic and, above all, enjoying doing it. “I believe that this ends up taking away the interest of most young people a little”, he says.

Pasquali continues: “The world revolves around digital. In the recent past, large companies began their digital transformations, aiming to meet internal business processes such as data processing and internal management”. And he adds: “Currently, everything related to the business and the offer of products and services often only takes place through digital platforms such as web or mobile applications”.

Professional demand and shortage

In addition, the Assespro-PR study indicated, in December 2022, that 632 thousand people were employed in areas related to technology in Brazil. Despite these numbers, the McKinsey business consultancy estimates that there will be around 1 million fewer professionals than available vacancies in Brazil by 2030.

According to Leonardo Pasquali, it is exactly the very high demand for qualified professionals that shapes the need and causes wages to inflate too much. “You see, it’s like an auction – whoever pays the most ends up hiring the specialized professional”, he comments.

Finally, the CEO of Pasquali Solution, a company specialized in outsourcing IT professionals, especially Software Developers, ponders: For companies, it is not uncommon for software projects, given their strategic importance, to have very high budgets, therefore, Paying a lot to a professional will not be a problem”.

According to Leonardo, such companies understand that they would have much bigger problems if they did not deliver the projects to be developed. The McKinsey report also indicates that Brazil trains an IT professional for eleven lawyers or administrators. By comparison, in India, the ratio is one to three. This disproportion may help explain the increasingly high wages in the sector.
