France coach Didier Deschamps has said that striker Antoine Griezmann is the player he talks to the most in order to boost his confidence.
“I speak a lot with the players. Antoine is definitely the player I have had the most conversations with,” said the French coach ahead of today’s match against Italy in the Nations League.
Regarding the Atlético de Madrid striker, he said that “he has had better and worse moments” in the last year, but he insisted on his confidence in him. “When he has good feelings, his influence is important,” he said.
“I spoke to him during the Euros, between competitions I spend a lot of time with the players to build their confidence,” said Deschamps.
For his part, Kylian Mbappé said he was “very happy” with the time he has spent at Real Madrid, as in that short period the team has already won the European Super Cup, has already scored several goals and “everything is going well.”
“I am very happy to be in Madrid, everything is going well. We have already won a trophy. It is getting better and better. I have scored goals, everything is going well,” said the French star.
On the other hand, Gianluigi Donnarumma, PSG’s Italian goalkeeper, declared that the Italian team wants to show that it is not the same one that disappointed at the recent Euro 2024, after being eliminated in the round of 16 following an insufficient match against Switzerland.
Italy is playing again for the first time since being eliminated from the competition in which it was defending its 2021 crown. A disappointment that no one in the “Nazionale” camp hid.
“We want to show that we are a great team, that we are not the same as in the Euros,” said Donnarumma.
The match has a special meaning for the PSG goalkeeper: “I have a special relationship with Paris and it will be special to play there. A great challenge after a great disappointment. A new cycle begins after the Euros,” insisted the goalkeeper.
He revealed that after the elimination from the European Championship, “the coach was very critical of himself and assured that there would be changes to improve.”
“We cannot afford to underestimate the League of Nations after the terrible role we played,” he said.
On the match and the quality of the French: “We approach it as a team, because they have very high-level players. Mbappé, for example, is marked as a team,” he concluded.
