Paris.- High-speed train traffic on the Paris-Lyon corridor, which includes the Paris-Barcelona line, was disrupted on Wednesday following an incident involving a train caused by storms in the early hours of the morning.
The French National Railway Company (SNCF) has explained in its X account for travellers that a train has collided this morning with a tree that had fallen on the tracks in the Yonne department, halfway between Paris and Dijon.
The cause of this problem is “the passage of a sudden mini-tornado,” he said in a statement.
Traffic between Paris and Lyon has been suspended until at least 2 p.m. local time (12 p.m. GMT), according to SNCF, which has said that TGV trains cannot be diverted onto the conventional line because there is also another tree blocking the tracks.
In fact, he has warned that clearing the tracks on the conventional line cannot be done “quickly” and that is why the trains have to stay or go to a station.
Traffic on the South-East corridor remains south of Lyon, heading towards Marseille, Nice, Perpignan or Barcelona.
The railway company has issued a warning to its customers to postpone their journeys if they can. According to its estimates, 80,000 passengers will be affected this Wednesday.
He also said that all tickets can be exchanged or refunded.
This incident comes after three of the four major TGV corridors (all except the South-East, now in question) suffered a coordinated sabotage last Friday by the criminal arson of signalling installations.
This forced the cancellation of 200 of the 750 TGV trains scheduled for that day and dozens more over the weekend. Complete normality had returned by Monday.
