A motorist born in 1983 was arrested on Friday evening after a chase of several kilometers with the police. This took place in the municipalities of Havelange and Somme-Leuze.

The man tried to escape a check organized as part of a BOB operation. The police say they reached 180km/h while pursuing the driver.

During this chase, the motorist committed a series of violations. He notably crossed the villages of Méan and Maffe (Havelange) at more than 100km/h instead of 50km/h and did not respect various road markings.

The driver then ended up in a muddy field after missing a turn at the Maffe exit. According to the Namur public prosecutor’s office, he drove for several hundred meters before hitting an aqueduct and a hedge. He was finally arrested.

The case was put under investigation for malicious obstruction of traffic and armed rebellion. Presented to an investigating judge on Saturday, he was released on conditions.

The passenger who was in his car was also heard as a witness, he seemed to have been very scared.

According to the Namur public prosecutor’s office, a lack of insurance could explain the driver’s escape.
