“High-Speed Driving Fines in Walloon Brabant: Costly Consequences for Repeat Offenses”

2023-05-24 10:02:00

A double observation. We drive fast, too fast, in Walloon Brabant, but the court knows how to show understanding. However, motorists should beware. A repeat offense can be costly in terms of fines and withdrawal of license with, sometimes, the obligation to have a device installed which, following having “blown into the tube”, prohibits you from driving once more. Installation cost? Some €4,000.

For the motorways in western Walloon Brabant, the radar installed in Rebecq on the A8 Brussels-Tournai identifies many heavy foot drivers on the mushroom head (177 km/h on October 23, 2022, 168 km/h on 11 November 2022).

The convictions? In the first case, fine of 57 € suspended for 25, forfeiture of 40 days suspended for half. In the second, a fine of €48 suspended for €20, forfeiture of one month suspended for half and the favor of withdrawal at the weekend. This suggests that the rate is one euro per kilometer too much.

The excuse the least often alleged if not the most original came from a motorist flashed at 167 km / h in Nivelles on the E 19 Paris-Brussels on October 9, 2022. She suffers from Crohn’s disease, an inflammation of the intestine which can cause diarrhoea. She was in a hurry to return to her home… It cost her a fine of 47 € suspended for 20 € and a disqualification of one month suspended for half and in favor of withdrawal at the weekend.

Waterloo and Braine-l’Alleud have, by far, the pompom for speeding in urban areas. Many drivers easily exceed 80 or 90 and even 100 km/h. The records are 104 km/h on September 30, 2022 at 4 a.m. in Braine and 105 km/h on November 18, 2022 at 1:18 p.m. in Waterloo.

In the first case, the driver suspects that the engine was tampered with before he bought the car. In the second, the driver was stressed and in a hurry because his companion, 38 weeks pregnant, had strong contractions. Results ? Fine of €58 suspended for half and forfeiture of 15 days to work on weekends. In the second, a fine of €100 suspended for half and three months forfeiture suspended for half.

Multiply by 8

It will be specified that these fines must be multiplied by 8 and that the record, for alcoholic motorists, is held, for this hearing, by a motorist surprised in Nivelles with an alcohol level of 3.38 grams per liter of blood. Result ? One month forfeiture, fine of €200 with suspended probation, treatment to put an end to excessive alcohol consumption.
