A high school student was arrested Tuesday in the north of France following threatening to slit the throat of his philosophy teacher, we learned on Wednesday from police sources, in a country which remains traumatized by the assassination of two teachers in 2020 and 2023 by radicalized young people.
This 16-year-old teenager, unknown to the justice system, made these threats on Monday to his comrades on a social network. It was then reported on the Pharos platform, a government site for reporting illegal content online.
He was arrested early Tuesday morning and then placed in police custody. A police force was then set up around his establishment in Armentières, the Paul Hazard high school. The teacher concerned filed a complaint.
Two assassinations in memory
In the Samuel Paty affair, which caused an international shockwave, the 47-year-old history and geography teacher was stabbed then beheaded in October 2020 near his college in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, in the Paris region, by Abdoullakh Anzorov, a Russian refugee of Chechen origin shot dead by the police.
The young 18-year-old radicalized Islamist criticized the professor for showing caricatures of Mohammed during a lesson on freedom of expression.
At the end of 2023, another professor, Dominique Bernard, was also stabbed to death, in the north of the country, by a radicalized former student, an Islamist attack which led the government to strengthen the country’s security.
