private lecturer dr Arnd Giese, chief physician for gastroenterology and general internal medicine at the St. Elisabeth Hospital in Herten, and his team are delighted with the certificate for hepatology awarded by the DGVS (German Society for Gastroenterology, Digestive and Metabolic Diseases).

The Department of General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology completely covers the subfield of hepatology. This includes all diseases of the liver and bile ducts such as hepatitis caused by viruses, autoimmune hepatitis, the common fatty liver hepatitis and tumors of the liver and bile ducts.

The department of Priv.-Doz. dr Arnd Giese offers the full range of diagnostics and drug therapy for this disease. All important surgical and interventional therapies (surgery, sclerotherapy of tumor-supplying vessels, TIPSS for cirrhosis of the liver, etc.) can also be offered in cooperation with the other departments in the PROSELIS Foundation Hospital.

“We are pleased regarding the certification as a sign of our high quality of treatment for liver diseases. We can treat patients with malignant liver diseases both as inpatients and, in some cases, as outpatients. In the field of ultrasound diagnostics, we can use our ultrasound device to carry out, for example, contrast medium ultrasound or liver stiffness measurements. With the liver stiffness measurement (elastography) it is often possible to make a prediction regarding the course of liver diseases without a puncture (biopsy),” says Priv.-Doz. dr Arnd Giese, who is happy regarding the award with the senior physicians Melanie Mulvahill and Anja Ruppel (from left).
