High probability of rain in western and central Cuba for this Sunday

Meteorologist Miriam Teresita Llanes reported on state TV that Hurricane Isaac and Tropical Storm Joyce remain in the distant Atlantic, without representing danger to any land area. Both tropical systems only pose a risk to navigation in the area.

Meanwhile, Cuba continues under the influence of subtropical high pressures, but the passage of tropical waves to the south of the east of the country has generated abundant cloudiness, increasing the activity of showers, rains and thunderstorms, especially in the eastern half.

For this Sunday, September 29, a tropical wave is expected to continue moving westward, which will maintain a high probability of precipitation, especially in the western and central regions.

Showers, rain and thunderstorms

The weather report indicates that in the morning there will be partially cloudy skies, with occasional cloudy weather in areas of the northern coast of central and eastern Cuba, which could cause some isolated showers.

As the day progresses, starting at noon, the sky is expected to become more cloudy, mainly in localities in the interior and south of the west and center, from the province of Havana to Guantánamo, passing through the Isle of Youth. These areas will be under the influence of showers, rain and thunderstorms that, in some cases, could be intense and last into the night.

Temperatures and winds

As for the minimum temperatures for early Sunday morning, they are estimated between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius, although they could be somewhat lower in inland areas and higher on the coastal strip. The afternoon will be warm, with maximum temperatures that will range between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius, and could exceed these values in some areas of the interior of the country.

For their part, the winds will be weak and variable in the morning, but starting at noon they will blow from the east in the central and western regions, with speeds of between 10 and 25 km/h. Regarding the state of the sea, waves are expected on the northern eastern coast and from Cabo Cruz to Punta de Maisí, while the rest of the coasts will have calm sea conditions.

Weather in Cuba: next week

For the next three days, meteorological conditions will continue to be favorable for the formation of showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoons and nights, due to the continuous passage of tropical waves and the presence of sufficient humidity in the upper atmosphere.

Extreme temperatures will not experience major variations, remaining between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius in most of the country, with special emphasis on the east.
