High price: Quebecers give up July 1 move

More and more Quebecers are giving up moving on July 1 because of the higher costs on that day, a recent survey revealed.

According to the survey conducted by HelloSafe, just over a third of Quebecers (35.5%) believe that the costs associated with moving are too expensive on July 1st. As costs double on July 1, nearly 38.4% cannot afford to pay more than $100 an hour for moving services.

“It is not surprising at all to see that people are discouraged at the idea of moving on July 1st to Quebec […] On July 1 in Quebec, it is not uncommon to see the prices of removals or truck rentals double, and even be canceled or postponed at the last minute,” said Guillaume Lahoud, co-founder of the one-stop moving service MovingWaldo. .

It is also important to note that one out of 10 Quebecers says they move to save on their rent. This is therefore the main reason that pushes people to move, while 26.5% admit to moving for professional reasons.

The probe was carried out online during the month of May 2022 with 448 people.
