High Political Cost, Asset Confiscation Bill Has Never Been Discussed

MI/SUSANTO (Member of Commission III of the DPR, Santoso.)

The House of Representatives (DPR) is said to have never discussed the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU). Even though the policy has been on the leadership’s desk for a long time.

Member of Commission IIII of the House of Representatives Santoso said the bill had only been briefly mentioned by Commission III Chairman Bambang Wuryanto. According to Santoso, Bambang Wuryanto indicated that it was difficult to discuss the Asset Confiscation Bill because of the high political costs.

“Yes, it has never been discussed. And it can be discussed in the next period,” he said when contacted, Thursday (29/8/2024).

Meanwhile, DPR Speaker Puan Maharani indicated that the bill would be difficult to discuss, especially in the current period where time is very short.

“What is certain is that every discussion of the law must meet the existing requirements and must obtain input from all elements of society as needed,” he explained.

The legal requirements and mechanisms in question must be met so that the DPR prefers to prioritize other discussions.

“Whether it will be better to accelerate it, please ask that. So that in this short period of time, whether we have time or not, we can focus on the things that are important to be completed,” he said. (Sru/P-3)
